I love using task cards with my reading groups. It is great for independent work for my students.  I pull these out when I am working with my reading groups or working one on one with my remediation groups.  Or I can use them as a morning work activity when my students first arrive in the morning.

I created these cards to have my students write on the cards themselves.  I printed them off  on cardstock and laminated them .  My students get a dry erase marker and write on the card to complete their task.  Picture clues are added to help my little learners with their reading.

All of my task cards are cut apart and placed into a small container which makes it easy to use in centers.  Make one or two copies and you have a life long tool for your learners.

Like what you see?  You can pick them up here.

I hope you find them useful in your own classroom.

Thanks,

O.k. , O.k, I have been just soaking up some summer fun and with all of this fun this poor blog has been neglected.  Well I left pool side and created a little project I plan on using these pencils with my small groups or in my centers for just one more learning tool for sight word recognition.

First, I printed them all out on cardstock and laminated each of them.

Next, I decided these could be used two different ways.  One way is to place them at a table inside a container and students could pull a pencil and write the words they solve right on the pencils with a dry erase marker or an alternative is record their answers on a separate sheet of paper.

The other way they could be used is punch the holes out and place them on a ring or use a brad and take them to use in small groups.  I have also found them a great tool to take with me here at home for "entertainment" at a restaurant while waiting for our meal.  Hey , I will grab any time to fit in some learning. :)

Thanks,

Throughout the year we work on sight words and I have found the best system that works for me .  This packet was created just for that purpose.  I evaluate my students at the beginning of the year and decide which level they are at.  We of course begin with the Pre-Primer word list and then move onto Primer if my kinders are ready for it.  Of course each child is at a different place or pace.  This packet allows me to differentiate to my little learners.

                            *** Free sample-stay tuned****

Before school begins in the summer, I would print out on cardstock these sets of letters and laminate.  Quick simple and ready to go with a metal ring.  These are used to evaluate my kiddos.

Next, I use this sheet to mark off what words they know.  If you have an eager parent volunteer or a teacher assistant then this is a great task to give them to help you out.

After everything is complete, I decide if I can group my students together based on their performances and then assign them their packets.  Parents get a letter sent home telling them what is expected by the end of two weeks (great topic to discuss at open house).  Then we get out packets and the children are assessed on the words.

Since teacher appreciation week is coming so soon.  I thought I would share the first portion of the packet.  Try it out .  If you like it then head on over and pick up my Pre-Primer set and the Primer Set.  First grade, Second Grade ,etc.  coming soon.  Just a little appreciation for my followers and great teachers out there.

Back again for a little sight word freebie and back to school celebration.  I wanted to share one of the ways we review sight words at home.  This is a quick and easy review to do right before bedtime.

First, we lay out all of the words we are working on.  I don't typically give more than 10 at a time to learn.  I turn all the cards over and my kiddo is ready to play.

Second, the cards are flipped over and if my kiddo reads it right then it goes in their pile....if not the card is mine...ha ha ha (evil laughter)  just kidding.  :)  Of course that adds a little competition to it so they can beat mom.

Finally the cards are tallied up and sometimes I even throw in a few that we have already mastered just to make sure they are still on the mastered list.

And now for the freebie.....a little more apple fun with Pre-Primer sight words.  Enjoy.  Head on back next Sunday for the final back to school freebie.

Have a great week.

Alright week 2 of our Back to School celebration! How is everyone doing? Just a little tired....I am by the end of the day. September is spent getting routines down and classroom policies in place . Once that is all done and learned then we can get started on the real heart of the curriculum. Last week, I shared with you a little sight word freebie and this week I am going to piggy back
http://www.pinterest.com/TeachingBug/https://docs.google.com/document/d/14WOhlCZczVvU3Bf5CvlKzfgb80rFe3PvU8-52UW6Xyo/edit?usp=sharing
on that and share the next part of my sight word piece by adding a little reading and highlighting to our sight word recognition. This freebie (click on freebie picture above)is allowing the students to read the sentences and color the apple where the word is found in the sentence. If you are looking for more sight word activities head on over to my Pinterest board (click on picture of my board above )and you will find all kinds of activities using sight words and all the other little goodies I have found for teaching.
Have a great week!
